Hidden away in the country is a small, inviting winery, Galloping Goose Vineyards, in Carroll County. Leaving the drone of the black top and turning onto the gravel lane, passing through the old double gates, time just seems to slow down. Taking a deep breath, the damp woods in spring delights the senses and settles the nerves. The lane is lined with old pines and hay fields on each side. When the gravel lane twists hard left the vineyards appear, gracing the hillside. Nestled there, in folds of the hills, are the old red barns and winery. A pastoral setting where sheep and horses graze and chickens strut proudly with their young in springtime. Listen carefully and hear the breeze caress the reeds surrounding the pond, or the call of the red tail hawk somewhere in the distance. One is drawn to this country escape, not only because of its extraordinary beauty, but also by what this beauty can produce.
