Old Westminster’s proprietors, the Baker family, aim to raise a reputation for crafting wines of intrigue. Old Westminster is a family establishment providing a unique, wine-centered experience. The property is situated on a rocky plot of ground just south of historic Westminster, MD, where patrons enjoy the ambiance of the vineyard and a hands-on winery producing exceptional wines. The Baker family believes this winery represents the American Dream: strong family, faith, sustainability and entrepreneurial spirit. Through teamwork and shared commitment, they strive to create wines that reflect the terroir and balanced farming practices. Old Westminster Winery is a place to enjoy hand-crafted wines produced in an environmentally conscious way, build relationships and genuinely connect with the land.

About the Winery

Cygnus Wine Cellars was born in July 1996, emerging from the shell of an abandoned 1939-vintage slaughterhouse in downtown historic Manchester, Carroll County. Owner and winemaker Ray Brasfield focuses on producing dry table wines and methode champenoise sparkling wines (champagne) from only locally grown grapes. Depending upon the growing season, Brasfield also produces reserve wines in very small quantity, including late harvest dessert style wine, and a reserve dry red named Julian. Cygnus wines are ‘Vegan Friendly’, with no animal products used in their production. Table wines are sold under the ‘Cygnus’ label, while the sparkling wines say ‘Royele’ on the label.Wine education is the focus in the Cygnus Wine Cellars tasting room. Customers will find intelligent and informative answers to their wine questions, often from the winemaker himself. Cygnus Wine Cellars hosts several food-centered events throughout the year, and customers are encouraged to host their own private dinners, parties, or wine receptions at the winery, with the assistance of the winemaker and local caterers.

About the Winery

Hidden away in the country is a small, inviting winery, Galloping Goose Vineyards, in Carroll County. Leaving the drone of the black top and turning onto the gravel lane, passing through the old double gates, time just seems to slow down. Taking a deep breath, the damp woods in spring delights the senses and settles the nerves. The lane is lined with old pines and hay fields on each side. When the gravel lane twists hard left the vineyards appear, gracing the hillside. Nestled there, in folds of the hills, are the old red barns and winery. A pastoral setting where sheep and horses graze and chickens strut proudly with their young in springtime. Listen carefully and hear the breeze caress the reeds surrounding the pond, or the call of the red tail hawk somewhere in the distance. One is drawn to this country escape, not only because of its extraordinary beauty, but also by what this beauty can produce.

Serpent Ridge Vineyard is Westminster’s first Vineyard Winery and we are proud to be Carroll County’s newest Winery. We specialize in small lots of handmade wine from grapes grown in our vineyard, select Maryland vineyards, and other carefully chosen sites.
