Riverside Winefest at Sotterley this weekend

Join 16 Maryland wineries (including two making their grand debut!) at the Riverside Winefest at Sotterley in Hollywood, St. Mary's County.

HISTORIC SOTTERLEY
On October 4-5, 2008, the Riverside Winefest will be hosted at the Historic Sotterley Plantation, co-sponsored by the Maryland Wineries Association.
“People do not just gather here for the wine but for the ambiance we have to offer here at Sotterley Plantation,” Nancy Easterling of Sotterley said.
The 300-year-old Sotterley mansion overlooks the Patuxent River as the festival takes place below on the gorgeous preservation. Read more.
GrapeView: Sangiovese
Sangiovese is a red wine grape variety originating in Italy whose name derives from sanguis Jovis, "the blood of Jove.” The variety tends to be high in acidity and generally makes medium to full-bodied wines. It usually has moderate to high tannins, which make it a wine desperately in need of culinary companionship. Sangiovese can be overlooked but is the primary grape of Tuscany's famed Chianti blend.
“The secret is trying to minimize the production,” says Mike Fiore, of Sangiovese’s propensity to overproduce. Fiore drops fruit twice during the growing season, the latter time during veraison. Read more.
