GrapeView:
Chardonnay
A Flexible Classic:
Originating in the Burgundy wine region of France, the malleable
nature of Chardonnay accommodates its cultivation and growth
in a wide range of climates. This green-skinned grape is used
to make a white wine that generally reflects the terroir—the
geography—of the region in which it is grown.

Skipjack
to Sail MD Wine
to Market
Participate in a historic moment Sunday,
June 1 as the Skipjack Martha Lewis receives wine at the Chesapeake
Bay Wine Festival for delivery to Havre de Grace. The wines
were made by St. Michaels Winery from grapes grown by Mount
Felix Vineyard in Havre de Grace. The grape delivery last
Fall was a historical leap back to the 18th Century when produce
delivery via skipjack was still common on the Bay. Be there
to witness the launch this Sunday at the Chesapeake Bay Wine
Festival. See
you at the Festival!
Cascia

Elk Run Vineyards in Mt. Airy, Maryland.
Elk
Run Vineyards Thrives
Tucked into rural Frederick County lies
Elk Run Vineyards, a Maryland renowned winery, that since
1983, has been producing an extensive variety of quality wines.
Fred Wilson, Carol Wilson, and Neill
Bassford began the project in 1979, and four years later Elk
Run became a bonded winery. It was the first all-vinifera
vineyard in Maryland.
Fred Wilson never received a formal education
in winemaking, but rather, he learned from experience. Wilson
did, however, study and learn from the Finger Lakes’
Dr. Konstantin Frank, a man Wilson refers to as “the
forerunner for all the vinifera types of grapes on the East
Coast.”
After harvesting grapes with Frank for
several seasons, Wilson decided that if he could get through
hardships with Frank, then he could surely make it in the
wine industry on his own.Read
