bullet "A Great Year for MD Wine"

The 2007 harvest is being trumpeted as one of the industry’s best – the grapes were picked at record sugar levels and concentration, and this should translate into an award-winning vintage.

Maryland vineyardists welcomed the drought conditions, as the dry weather helped control humidity and ward off pests. Since a vine's roots can burrow 30-40 feet, a vineyard is able to find sufficient water to survive.

Without the excess rainfall, the harvested grapes were smaller with more concentrated flavors and sugars. If the nouveau wines are any indication of the overall quality of the 2007 wines, we're in for a great vintage.
